Shag Also known as Collegiate Shag, the dance originated in New Orleans and was popular in the 1920's and predates Lindy Hop. It was very popular with college students and mainly danced to fast ragtime music. It evolved into many forms which take on different names such as Carolina Shag and Saint Louis Shag. The dance style is distinguished by it's hold where the couples upper bodies are very close whereas their lower part is further apart. As with the other forms of dancing we teach it can be danced to swing music making it easy to combine with other dance styles. www.swingtimedance.co.uk
