Balboa Balboa originates from California around the same time as Lindy Hop. It's danced in a closed hold position with the dancers quite close together, this is due to it evolving from everyday dancehalls where space was limited. Because it's also danced to swing music and attracts the same followers as Lindy Hop, the two are often mixed together which some people refer to as Bal-Swing. Balboa as a dance style in it's own right has seen a dramatic resurgence in the last few years which has led to the staging of the London Balboa Festival which takes place every year and attracts dancers from all over the world. www.swingtimedance.co.uk
